Battle of Anghiari (detail) by Peter Paul Rubens

Battle of Anghiari by Peter Paul Rubens

On the left a detail of the Battle of Anghiari by Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). This is a copy of a fresco by Leonardo da Vinci done in 1505, but left unfinished.

The fresco was painted over at a later date, but before Rubens could have seen it, so his painting must have been inspired by either descriptions or copies of the original.
