Below a portrait of Isabella d'Este done around 1500 by Leonardo da Vinci in pastels. This was done in Mantua. There are many copies of this portrait, but it is believed that the one in the Louvre is the original. Note the strange position of the right arm.

Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci

It is said that Leonardo kept this painting by hin always, and would never sell it. He spent three years solidy working on it, and during that time turned town commissions from the Pope, kings and princesses.
So who was she? Well she was the second wife of a fairly obscure Florentine citizen. |
